But first of all a big thank you to Linda from Buzing and Bumbling for being our cheerleader in the hop and to Madam Samm for her lovely hop ideas and making us all stay creative!
Now on to my projects, there are two... the first one I have been meaning to make it for so many months now... first as a thank you present, then as a birthday present, then as a christmas gift... all for the same very special lady (keeping her name a secret as it is a surprise) but did not manage to make it, and then the In your words blog hop was the perfect excuse... so here it is.
Update: You can now download the free pattern here!
I had seen that saying a few times over the internet, and had pinned one of those to my Pinterest "Embroidery & Appliqué" board for ages... Since I started quilting and sewing last year my fabric stash has grown considerably, I have been blessed with lovely family members and friends who gifted me a lot of my stash (and I did a fair bit of shopping as well). And I have found myself trying to hide some of the fabric, not to alarm my husband who seems to think the fabric is taking over the flat...
But I wanted it to be in my own handwriting and with my own little drawings... so I added a needle and thread, a thimble and a clothes pin...and of course a little heart. Here's a close up of the design.
I painted an embroidery hook blue, just to make it highlight the white. I first glued the fabric to the inside ring of the hook, to make sure it will stay in place, and then tidied the loose fabric by gluing it back to the inside. Sorry I have no picture, but if you are making one, just make lots of tiny bit cuts and stick it to the interior, so it looks nice and tidy from the back as well.
The second project is also meant for a very special lady... I won't say much about her either because I am sure she will be reading this post...
Last year has been about giving, started my charity blanket project and became a member of a few local charity events. So for next year I had to have "give" as one of my main words... and then the three words appeared as magic... Give, dream, love...
I made the little cross stitch into a mug rug using the Simpatico collection... sorry have no pictures of the back but I used the straw fabric (same as the yellow one in the background) in orange. I quilted it in a square spiral to highlight the centre. And to make it into a little set I made a pincushion. I am calling it the "Stacked with love" pincushion. It is a set of two tied up with a ribbon... the tiny little one is good to take it on the go, but they work great stacked up because there is a lot of surface for the pins.
Today I am not hosting a giveaway, but your comment in this post gives you the chance to win amazing prices at Madam Samm's blog (check it out here). So don't forget to leave me a comment letting me know what you think of my projects... love to hear your thoughts.
I wanted to be able to share with each and everyone of my followers a gift, and therefore I will be giving away both embroidery patterns. If you would like a copy of one or both the patterns, just say so in your comment and I will email it to you soon. You just need to be a follower (or become a new one) either in the blog, by email, via Facebook or Pinterest.
And please do not forget to visit the other lovely projects being presented today in the hop, here is the schedule, and you can find the complete one by following the link in my sidebar.

ReplyDeleteLOL. I just suggested framing some Christmas projects in hoops to our Guild yesterday. I'll have to show them your example to persuade some.
ReplyDeleteI can SO relate to the hiding of fabric. Frantically trying to finish some UFOs so it looks like I have achieved something.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing with us!

Love your version of the quote. It makes it so personal. And the cross stitch miniquilt is so sweet. Love the fabrics you used to go wit the words. Well done.

ReplyDeleteThey are both lovely - I too have material and craft stuff hidden away all around the house and I dont think we are the only ones either!

ReplyDeleteWhat a noble thought and action, GIVE. Your first project made me giggle. Perfect sentiment for my house too. Whenever I purchsae fabric, the first thing my husband asks is I hope you have space for that. Hurrph!!!! Of course I reply then scramble around to find a spot. lol
ReplyDeleteNati, both works of arts are very creative and just lovely. I would love to have the pattterns too. Thanks for sharing and giving inspiration.
Lovely mug rug and the stitching is very cute and quite appropriate here as well. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWonderful projects. Your stitching is exquisite. Stitcheries are making such a great comeback.
ReplyDeleteI loved opening your blog to such a cute project. I would love to have your patterns. You do beautiful work. Give is such a great word. What a wonderful place the world would be if everyone focused on this one little word in his/her life.

ReplyDeletecindy at quiltdoodledesigns dot com
I love the first project - I should hang one in my quilting room!
ReplyDeleteLovely projects! I often see sayings that I think would make great projects and don't take the time to put them to fabric.... now I'm inspired!
ReplyDeleteYour projects are very beautiful, but I love the first most. Thanks for sharing your creativity.
ReplyDeleteYour friends will love the gifts, I love the words on the first one, now if I could only find a way for the postman to hand all packages only to me.
ReplyDelete:) The thought of hiding fabric stashes brought a big smile this morning!
ReplyDeleteI cracked up when I read that saying - too true! I'm just glad my husband doesn't really understand how much fabric costs. Love both of your projects, and I'm sure the recipients will as well.
ReplyDeletesoo cute, a LQS has a similar sign by the front it reads : your husband called, he said you can buy as much fabric as you want.
ReplyDeleteSo cute...love the projects. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove the projects they are so cute, especially the saying about husbands. Mine is just like that. If I was lucky to win I would like either of the patterns. Thanks for sharing and the giveaway. Susie x

ReplyDeleteI can tell a lot of work and thought went into these treasures and yours are fantastic. Judy C
ReplyDeleteYour projects are lovely (wonderful gifts!) and I love that saying! I hide fabric, too, but my husband really doesn't care what I buy. I think I just don't want him to see how much fabric I really have. :O)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! (And that saying is hilarious! A lot of us need that one!) Great job!
ReplyDeleteHi!!! I love both of your creations!!! Thank You
ReplyDeleteLove the hoop ;D Too cute!!
ReplyDeleteI am so thrilled to see so much embroidery becoming part of fiber arts. Embroidery, cross stitch, hardanger, etc., have been part of my 'sewing' for so long - it's so calming. I would love your patterns. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou do lovely work and you are so generous and giving.
ReplyDeleteIts great ! I miss not cross-stitching ! since I learned to quilt a couple years ago, I havent finished much. I need to find some Cross-stitching Blogs and make some buddies.

ReplyDeleteI love both of your projects...the first one is so fun, and the second one is so beautiful! Great photos too!
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at your first project - I'm pretty sure my husband has NO IDEA how much fabric I have in my sewing room!
ReplyDeleteI love both of your projects. I laughed at your first project. I believe all our WDH's are all releated. The thing is all my fabric can be right in front of him and he still does not see it! LOL It made my day! Thanks for sharing today and I look forward to seeing more of you sweet projects. Judith, Texas
ReplyDelete2 great projects. My LQS has that first saying on the wall there -- along with another that says "your husband called, he says you can have whatever you want"

ReplyDeleteconn_and_vans_mom(at)yahoo(dot)com

ReplyDeleteVery nice embroidery projects.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I love the piece about your husband. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your lovely project. Embroidery is so much fun.
ReplyDeleteBoy, oh boy, Nati you hit the nail on the head. Only I guess I should add that he lets me keep all the fabrics he doesn't know about! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI read in your profile that your are married to an Englishman. I live in the States and my grandfather was an Englishman. We have our own "melting pot." We have lots and lots of nationalities and ethnicities, I guess that's the politically correct way to say it. More and more nationalities are also becoming ethnicities, too, now.
ReplyDeleteI love the patterns. I used to cross stitch extensively and have gotten away from it. I was even thinking of donating many of the projects that are finished stitching but not done into a finished project to the quilt guild. One gal seems to like to take and finish them for the small quilt auction. And, I think lots of quilters have GIVE in their vocabulary as a major verb.
Thank you for taking time to share your creativity with fellow creators.
Lovely words, and lovely mug rug!
ReplyDeleteI became a follower. I love the sentiment about a husband. Unfortunately, my hidden places have overflown two closets, so I think someone could easily find my hiding places. Two husbands certainly knew about them as well as the cats. It certainly makes a cute hanging and I think it would be a hit at guild!!
ReplyDeleteMuy justas palabras Nati!!
ReplyDeleteY adorables todos y cada uno de los trabajos.
Saludos!
The first project makes me smile. and the other, your quilting and stitching is wonderful. They will love them.
